At 4:12 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, Atlantic City police were dispatched to Trenton Terrace for a report of a group in a fight. Officers arrived to find Joseph Dixon, 33, of Atlantic City, and Deontay Mickey-Evans, 21 of Willingboro, bleeding from stab wounds. Dixon was also tending to a canine bleeding heavily from apparent stab wounds.
Officers quickly learned that the altercation began on the street between Dixon, Mickey-Evans and a third individual, Angel Hernandez-Contreras.
The fight escalated when Angel Hernandez-Contreras, 28, threatened Dixon, Mickey-Evans and a female, Jordan Banner, 33, of Atlantic City, with a knife, police said.
It was determined that Banner then retrieved her canine from inside her residence while Dixon retrieved a hammer, to thwart the knife attack.
The ensuing physical altercation resulted in Dixon and Mickey-Evans being stabbed by Hernandez-Contreras, police said.
During the altercation, Hernandez-Contreras also stabbed the canine that died as a result, police said.
Dixon, Mickey-Evans and Hernandez-Contreras were all transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of injuries sustained in the altercation. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
An investigation conducted by responding officers and Detectives of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Section led to charges being filed against all four individuals.
